HISTORY |
The Beef 'N Bird originated as the Belvedere Hotel built in 1948 with two beverage rooms ~ one for men only and one for ladies and escorts. There were 16 single rooms for rent upstairs and draft sold for 10 cents a glass. In 1973 the Hotel was sold and renovated. The two beverage rooms were combined to create one large tavern and the rooms upstairs were converted into a large banquet hall. Gerry Toppazini bought the Belvedere Hotel in 1977. Jerry played in the National Hockey League for 13 years with Boston, Chicago and Detroit. While in Boston, he frequented a bar called the Beef, Bird and Brew. Attempts to rename the Hotel after this establishment failed as the Ontario laws prevented him for using the word Brew in the name Thus The Beef and Bird Tavern was created. Jerry has since retired (thank GOD) and the
bar is now managed by his son Anthony with the help of his brothers and
sister Mark, Lino and Cheryl. The Beef also employes great people such
as Keith Goudreau, Trevor Richardson, Neil Lawson, Jeff Caughell, Rob
Belanger and Dave Wilson. This courteous staff is one in a million and
are here to serve you with quality and respect.
